The creative works of digital artist Kevin Soderlund can be described as a unique meld of the surreal with real-world objects or environments. The result is a fusion that's interesting, thought-provoking, and entertaining. "My goal is to achieve a level of stylized realism that `encodes' each piece with a slice of my personality," he says. "My art embodies an individual style, perspective, and vision that I've nurtured for many years, even before the creation of the digital tools I use today."
Soderlund originally studied illustration using traditional media, gaining a solid foundation in composition, layout, design, color theory, and the proper use of light. "With the emergence of 3D animation in feature films and television, I knew immediately that my work would be heading in that direction," he notes. As a result of this passion, Soderlund founded Jevin Studios, a 3D animation and design company in Santa Fe, New Mexico,
Currently, Soderlund uses Alias|Wavefront's Maya; NewTek's LightWave; Adobe Systems' Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere; Pixologic's ZBrush; and Macromedia's Director and Flash. His works range from short animated films to fully illustrated guides for top-selling computer games. Additional information about Soderlund can be found on the Jevin Studios' Web site at www.jevin.com.
