The Democratic Alliance's majority in the Cape Town unicity could, if the Constitutional Court rules in favour of constitutional amendments allowing floor crossing, come to an end on Friday. The court was asked to rule on the proposed new legislation after the amendments met heavy opposition from minority parties. In the Cape Town unicity the African National Congress/New National Party alliance is hampered by the legislation. If the court gives the go-ahead for floor-crossing a substantial NNP walkover could swing the balance of power in favour of the ANC.
