The typhoon hit land at the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture around 8.00 p.m., sweeping past the industrial city of Kawasaki about 30 minutes later.
Police said a 53-year-old security guard in Yokohama was killed when he was hit by a window that fell from the ninth floor of a building. Another person in Kanagawa was missing.
One 49-year-old man in Sahara, Chiba Prefecture was electrocuted Tuesday night when he touched a severed electric cable, according to Chiba prefectural police.
Eighteen people in seven prefectures - Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Shizuoka, and Aichi - were injured due to the typhoon, which the meteorological agency said is one of the strongest to strike the Kanto region after World War II.
