TAIPEI, Oct 1 Asia Pulse - The Council of Agriculture (COA) officially notified the World Trade Organization Monday that Taiwan will adopt customs quotas regarding rice imports and give up its current practice of restricting imports.
COA officials said that from next year, rice-exporting countries can export to Taiwan the current total quota level of 144,720 tons and that if they want to export more than that level, they will have to pay tariffs of NT$45 (US$1.30) per kilogram for rice and NT$49 per kilograms for rice products.
