SYDNEY, Oct 1 Asia Pulse - Westpac Banking Corp Ltd (ASX:WBC) has outsourced another part of its business, its cards processing unit in a $A100 million ($US54.12 million) deal.

Westpac said it had reached a multi-year agreement with the American-owned First Data group which would take on responsibility for the bank's Australasian cards processing in phases from next month.

Westpac would retain control of its cards sales, credit, collections and customer service back-office functions in Australasia.

About 25 Westpac employees are affected by the outsourcing decision and each are expected to be redeployed within the bank.

"Westpac's decision to outsource cards processing to First Data will allow Westpac to take advantage of the latest trends in card processing and marks our commitment to being the best cards provider in the market," Westpac's business and technology group executive Michael Coomer said.
