MELBOURNE, Oct 1 Asia Pulse - Leighton Holdings Ltd (ASX:LEI) chief executive Wal King is one of the growing list of corporate fat cats whose pay packets are orbiting in the multi-million dollar range.
The construction giant's annual report out today showed Mr King received a remuneration package of $A4.14 million ($US2.24 million) in 2001/02 which includes his base salary of $A1.9 million ($US1.03 million), $A1.95 million ($US1.06 million) in bonuses and $A281,000 ($US152,077.2) in superannuation.
In addition, a deferred incentive of $A4.9 million ($US2.65 million) is waiting for him in a deferred bonus account which will be paid when certain hurdles are met.
The salary makes him one of the best paid executives in Australia.
Last week it was revealed Commonwealth Bank of Australia Ltd chief executive David Murray had a package of almost $A7 million ($US3.79 million) in 2001/02, including a special $A4.65 million ($US2.52 million) bonus for clocking up a decade's service.
And it emerged today that Coles Myer chief executive John Fletcher received a $A7.7 million ($US4.17 million) golden handshake from his previous employer, Brambles Industries Ltd.
