SYDNEY, Oct 1 Asia Pulse - The Australian stock market went down at the open, but maintained ground relatively well given a further steep losing session on Wall St overnight.
By 1015 AEST, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was 7.3 points weaker at 2963.6 and the all ordinaries slid 7.2 points to 2921.1.
On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the December share price index contract, was four points lower at 2963 - a 0.6 point discount to the underlying index - on volume of 4744 contracts.
Financial services giant AMP continued to slump.
AMP was 18 cents or 1.54 per cent softer at $11.52.
