Hanaro Telecom, the nation's second largest broadband Internet operator, yesterday announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China Netcom Corp. to cooperate in the Chinese high-speed Internet market.
The deal is expected to strengthen Hanaro's foothold in the Chinese Internet market which promises to become the world's largest.
The deal was reached between Hanaro president Shin Yun-shik and China Netcom chief executive officer Edward Tian last Saturday when the Chinese businessman visited Seoul.
He was a member of a delegation headed by Jiang Mienheng, the eldest son of Chinese President Jiang Zemin, who toured South Korea last week.
Hanaro said that it would provide technical and marketing know-how of the broadband Internet industry to the Chinese firm.
