Consumer prices rose for the second consecutive month in September on a monthly basis, due mainly to an increase in prices of agricultural and industrial products.
The National Statistical Office (NSO) reported yesterday that consumer prices in September increased by 0.6 percent from a month earlier. The figure also represents an increase of 3.1 percent from a year before.
An NSO official said that the increase in consumer prices was mainly attributable to a hike in the price of agricultural products caused by typhoon Rusa and special demand for Chusok holiday, as well as auto price hikes
Consumer prices showed a month-on-month decrease of 0.1 percent in June and 0.3 percent in July, but rose in August by 0.7 percent.
The core inflation rate, which excludes the volatile food and energy categories, was 0.3 percent in September, up from 0.1 percent a month earlier. The year-on-year core inflation rate climbed to 2.9 percent in September from 2.8 percent in August.
