BUSAN _ In the end, it was 100-kg South Korean judo legend Ha Hyoung-joo and Kye Sun-hui, a North Korean judo heroine half Ha's size, who emerged to light the torch at the Asiad Main Stadium yesterday.

At the height of the Opening Ceremony, Hong Myung-bo, captain of the South Korean World Cup Squad, entered the stadium, where the glory started last June with the first-ever World Cup victory against Poland, and passed over the torch to the two superstars.

To the euphoria of spectators, the tiny Kye, and Ha _ a native of Busan _ walked together to the center of the pitch to light the torch.

Although the names of the torch lighters weren't announced until the last minute, few were surprised to see the pair.

Their names had been atop the shortlist of candidates for one of the biggest honors of the Asian Games.

Word had also been out that a North Korean female and a South Korean male athlete would be chosen.
