Busan _ South Korea's Kim Sang-hun took the country's first medal of the Busan Asian Games, finishing second in the final of the men's individual fencing foil yesterday in Gangseo Gymnasium.
Kim was beaten to the gold by the defending Asian Games champion Wang Haibin of China. After starting badly the South Korean rallied using his trademark counter-attacking skills to tie the score at 8-8 before scoring three consecutive points to finish the first round of the encounter. But in the second, Kim struggled and lost eight consecutive points to lose 15-11.
After cruising to the knockout stages in style, Kim had comfortably beaten Jordan's Amer Al-Nattor and Philippines' Emerson Segui en route to clinching a spot in the semifinals. There, he met Wu Hanxiong of China, winning 15-13 to earn the right to compete for the gold.
