South Korea will have to spend more than $30 billion to offset the defense capabilities of the U.S. troops stationed here, should they withdraw from the Korean peninsula, according to the Unification Ministry.
In a report to the National Assembly's Unification, Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee, the ministry also estimated the value of U.S. equipment and logistics at $14 billion, the equivalent of South Korea's yearly defense budget.
