(From Korea Times)
Russian Vice Foreign Minister Alexandr Losyukov yesterday revealed hope that Russia will be able to have more say in issues on the Korean peninsula through the envisioned formation of ``six-party'' talks comprising the Koreas, Russia, China, Japan and the United States.
He said the possibility of the regional forum had increased given the rapid changes in the political situation in Northeast Asia.
Losyukov, visiting here to attend the two-day Korea-Russia Forum, told a news conference that although Russia proposed the formation of the six-way talks to discuss regional issues in 1994, the proposal failed to pick up steam due to the unfavorable political situation.
``However, the situation has now changed,'' Losyukov added.
He revealed that Moscow had already called on Washington to cooperate in realizing the regional meeting.
If formed, the six-ways talks would address the inter-Korean peace process, as well as regional issues in various fields, including economy, culture and environment, he noted.
