BUSAN _ North Korea's state-run media yesterday reported on the Sunday opening of the Asian Games here, where it sent its delegation for the first time after boycotting all previous games.

``The 14th Asiand Games began in Busan on the evening of the 29th,'' said the (North) Korean Central Broadcasting Station report. ``Including our country (North Korea), 44 Asian countries sent some 10,000 athletes for the event.''

The radio report went on to mention that its red-and-blue flag flew in the stadium, alongside the ``One Korea'' flags the two Koreas used during the joint entrance.

``Spectators gave a standing ovation to the athletes of the North and South, who boasted national unity,'' it also said.

President Kim Dae-jung and the North's Olympic Committee Chairman Pak Myong-chol also attended the event, it added.
