By Lee Joo-hee Staff reporter Passage of transit cargo through Korean harbors is still sluggish compared to that in Asian hotbeds such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, a report showed yesterday.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries said a total of 1,714,000 TEUs (20-feet equivalent units) of cargo was handled at Busan Port in the first half of this year, up 23 percent from the same period last year. But Singapore's performance during the same period reached 6,408,000 TEUs, and Hong Kong posted 3,452,000 TEUs, larger than Busan's by over threefold and twofold each.
