WESTFORD, MA -- LightLab Imaging, a pioneer in optical coherence tomography (OCT), was acquired last month by the Japanese firm Goodman (Tokyo). The acquisition clears the way for LightLab--founded in 1998 as Coherent Diagnostic Technology to commercialize technology developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge)--to enter into alliances with major imaging vendors for the development of novel OCT medical applications, most likely cardiac catheterization.

LightLab had been exploring a deal with Siemens Medical Systems that ultimately could integrate its OCT equipment with the German company's Axiom Artis cardiac oath lab. Only preliminary R&D has been …
