DOUGLAS ADAMS wrote of a universe which was vast, stupid, cruel, unfair, and often blisteringly funny. In other words, he wrote of a universe much like the one we live in. The stupidity, cruelty and unfairness of our own universe were demonstrated in May 2001, when Adams, at the age of fifty-one, died quickly and unexpectedly of a heart attack after visiting a gym in Los Angeles. This book is many uncollected writings, snippets, ideas and the first quarter of a much-promised, but never-delivered new novel.
