TAOS As families and friends pray for the recovery of three local men who survived three bitterly cold nights in the desolate Ponche Valley of Colorado and New Mexico, doctors are waiting to see if two of them will have to lose fingers and toes damaged by severe frostbite.
The men, 23-year-old Aaron Ortiz, and brothers Anthony and Paul Abeyta, 27 and 26, were in stable condition Wednesday. The Abeytas are the sons of Taos County Assessor Margie Abeyta.
