I am beginning to realize that DVD-A is overkill in terms of what is required for the proper reproduction of most musical material on most home-music systems, including some very good ones. Sticking my neck out, I will say that my comments apply to SACD, too, even though I have yet to audition an SACD release in my home. I am basing this opinion upon what I have read about the performance of SACD as it relates to DVD-A. Both technologies are said to be sonically equal.
Now I will grant that DVD-A can do some wonderful things with surround-sound audio. I think that is great, and when surround sound is done correctly it is a marvelous thing.
