NEWTOWN closed in on the Banks Shropshire League Division One crown after pulling off a tense last ball win over British Sugar.

Chasing the visitors's 150-6, the Mid Wales men edged home with Craig Davies hitting the last ball of the game for a boundary. Paul Bennett (31no) and Steve Davies (38) also weighed in with useful knocks.

Earlier, the Sugarmen were held in check after a lively start with spinner Jono Davies taking 3-32 and Paul Kruger 2-28. Jason Allen top scored with 46 and Des Hayward made 41.

Montgomery got back to winning ways with a six-wicket success at Whittington. Rob Yewdall picked up 5-38 as the home side were skittled for just 95, before Monty eased to their target with Tim ...
