IN a sensational turn of events, Colwyn Bay are back in the Chelmere Homes Liverpool Competition promotion frame.
Looking down-and-out in fifth place going into Saturday's penultimate round of Division One matches, the Seasiders emerged like the proverbial Phoenix from the ashes with maximum points at bottom-of-the-table Haydock to find themselves rocketing into second place and everything to play for.
``It's just wonderful and more than we dared hope for,'' beamed the Bay's disbelieving skipper Sion Morris after learning that favourites Huyton and Hightown had both lost to set up a dramatic climax to the neck-and-neck race for Premier Division status next season.
While Huyton were scraping four points in their beating at Southport & Birkdale, Hightown were also on the receiving end of a hefty defeat at St Helens Recs, where they could only salvage four points to leave them locked in a three-way battle with Colwyn Bay for the right to join runaway leaders Newton-leWillows in the top flight.
The Bay are favoured with home advantage for their critical decider against Formby - a side they crushed 24-0 in their away clash two months ago.
