Despite its relative youth Israel has a strong tradition in theater. The early days of the state, and even in pre-state Palestine, the Habima and Cameri theaters boasted some fine casts largely based on Russian- and German-born Israelis who learned their craft in their countries of origin.
The largest event of the theater year is the Acco Festival of Alternative Israeli Theatre which will take place between September 21-24.
