Right in the middle of the discussion about the future of the euro stability pact, Finance Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser now has to report bad budget figures for Austria: "According to our current estimates, the budget deficit is between 1.25 and 1.5 per cent," he said on Friday [6 September] before the EU finance ministers' meeting in Copenhagen. The share of flood relief is 0.75 per cent of the GDP, Grasser said.
According to the Finance Minister's latest figures, Austria's deficit will be considerably higher this year than it was estimated in June. At that time, between 0.3 % and 0.4 per cent were predicted. …
