Brunei Darussalam can expect more gas exports to Japan as Tokyo Gas, Japan's largest city gas company, said it expected to boost its imports of LNG to an annual 9.5 million tonnes by the year 2008 from the present 7 million tonnes. The nation's revenue from gas export to Japan was $1.8 billion in 1991, but sank to $1.4 billion in 1998.
Gas production in Brunei Darussalam increased from 963 MMscf/d in 1991 to 1,036 MMscf/d in 1998.
The Japan Times said Tokyo Gas has already ordered the construction of two 145,000 cubic metre tankers to transport its LNG at a cost of US$167.8 million.
