Finance Committee revolt: No tax reform before recess.

The Knesset Finance Committee rose in revolt today against what it called "the Minister of Finance's steamroller". The minister wants to the Knesset to approve the tax reform bill before recessing in two weeks.

In an unprecedented protest to Knesset speaker MK Avraham Burg, committee members asked Burg to notify Minister of Finance Silvan Shalom that a thorough and comprehensive discussion on the bill was impossible in the brief period before the summer recess. Burg was asked not to bring the bill for its second and third readings by July 24, but during the recess, at the earliest.
