Daily treatment with warfarin and aspirin was more effective than daily aspirin alone or warfarin alone for preventing a second cardiovascular event.
Based on the findings of a Norwegian study of 3,630 myocardial infarction patients followed for 4 years, "it's time to give MI patients warfarin and aspirin," Dr. Harald Arnesen said at the 23rd Congress of the European Society of Cardiology
The Norwegian study enrolled patients admitted with a myocardial infarction to 20 hospitals during 1994-1998. At hospital discharge, patients were randomized to receive either aspirin or warfarin alone or in combination; other medications included statins in 77% and [beta]-blockers in 74%.
