Flexible sigmoidoscopy findings are poor predictors of proximal colon findings in asymptomatic women.
That conclusion emerged from an ongoing trial of women being conducted at four military hospitals nationwide, Dr. Philip Schoenfeld reported at the annual meeting of the American'College of Gastroenterology.
To date, 692 women with an average age of 60 have completed the study. Of these, 25% had a positive history of colorectal cancer, 10% were African American, and 98% underwent colonoscopies to the level of the cecum.
