ATLANTA -- Most American women are following the recommended guidelines for mammography but not for colorectal cancer screening, Deborah Holtzman, Ph.D., reported at a conference on cancer sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The findings of an analysis of data from the 1999 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System suggest that physicians should continue to promote mammography, especially for women aged 40-50, and step up promotion of colorectal cancer screening for those aged 50 and older, said Dr. Holtzman, acting chief of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Behavioral Surveillance Branch, Atlanta.
