OE Ambitions The most recent cross-border tie-ups with Taiwanese auto parts makers involved Kian Shen Metal Works Co., Ltd. and Shihlin Electric & Engineering Corp., the largest original equipment (OE) supplier of auto-frame assemblies/suspension parts and electrical parts, respectively, in Taiwan. Kian Shen recently announced that it would soon set up a joint venture to produce continuous velocity (CV) joints in Guangzhou, mainland China with NTN Corp. of Japan, one of the top two makers of such products in the world. The venture will initially be capitalized at US$10 million and set up a production facility in the Guangzhou Economic Development Zone. Kian Shen and NTN will have a 60% and 40% stake in the venture, respectively. The new venture will focus on supplying OE products to automakers there in the first phase.
