ASEAN REGIONAL FORUM: Powell, North Korea's Paek hold brief talks

The Asean Regional Forum (ARF) concluded yesterday with encouraging signs of an easing of tension on the Korean Peninsula and a stronger commitment from Asia's biggest security forum to halt the financing of terrorism through preventive diplomacy.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell met for 15 minutes with North Korean Foreign Minister Paek Nam-sun at the outset of the ARF meeting.

Powell said future discussion with Pyongyang would emphasise a variety of matters, including proliferation and mutual commitments made …
