Waterpark and commercial pool 11 owners and operators searching for a new product to sell at their retail stores and gift shops can consider adding chlorine-neutralizing sprays to their product lines.

By neutralizing the effects of chlorine on swimmers' hair, a chlorine-neutralizing spray can help your members and guests look and feel good. And with potential profit margins of 100 percent or more, your bottom line will look better as well.

Spray on, leave in

Under certain conditions, excessive exposure to chlorine can result in dry, frizzy, stiff or even discolored hair. While "swimmer's shampoo" certainly helps, it requires a shower, which not everyone has time for. Additionally, tap water often contains chemicals, so a shower rinse can add to the problem.

A leave-in conditioner complements a swimmer's shampoo. It starts to neutralize the effects of chlorine immediately and doesn't require rinsing, which can benefit guests at facilities with a limited number of showers. Customers can later use the spray throughout the day.

Chlorine neutralizers contain natural enzymes that deactivate chlorine and convert peroxides to water. Mineral buffers in the product neutralize the alkalinity of chlorinated water, leaving hair naturally pH-balanced. The spray also neutralizes ammonia.

To use the conditioner, swimmers towel-dry their hair, mist in eight to 15 sprays and comb through if desired. The conditioner also can act as a detangler.
