With attendance at the World Waterpark Association's 21st Annual Symposium and Trade Show down substantially, exhibitors said it was a feast-or-famine event.
Overall attendance at the show, held Oct. 9-13 in Orlando, Fla., slumped 14 percent from last year. Park member attendance, which WWA President Rick Root called a "genuine reflection" of the show's success, was off 20 percent.
Noting that the show took place less than a month after the terrorist attacks, Root said attendance was higher than he and board members expected.
"When we look at the people who were not in attendance, we're attributing it to the terrorist attacks," Root said. "We're pleased that numbers held up as well as they did. They exceeded our expectations.
With floor traffic down, the trade show's success was hit and miss among exhibitors.
