Universities demanding increase in freshmen quotas.

Despite the difficulty of attracting students and the government's quota freeze on incoming freshmen, universities are demanding an increase in the number of students they can accept, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development said yesterday.

According to the ministry, 105 universities have applied to accept a total of 15,312 more students next year.

The requests break down to 5,362 students for 37 private universities in the Seoul metropolitan area, 6,296 freshmen for 31 regional private universities, 2,361 students for 21 state-run universities and 1,293 for technical colleges.
