(From China Post)
Many of Taiwan's political and business heavyweights showed up at the memorial service for the father of the island's richest resident, Kuo Tai-ming.
President Chen Shui-bian and Premier Yu Shyi-kun were present at the service to remember Kuo Ling-rui, whose eldest son is now chairing Taiwan's biggest private-owned company, Hon Hai Precision.
Chen and Yu's appearance caught a lot of attention yesterday. The local media construed their attendance as an effort by the government to strengthen ties with Kuo, as Hon Hai is at the critical stage of deciding where in Taiwan to set up Hon Hai's global business headquarters.
