The arrests of Chiang Mai officials in connection with the filing of hundreds of false dental claims was the tip of an iceberg, with similar levels of corruption around the country draining the Social Security Fund.

The Social Security Office had received complaints of false claims from its branches nationwide, but had yet to assess overall damages, said Samart Rangsigunphum, a legal official.

An investigation had been launched, with prosecutions proceeding in many cases, he said.
