It was ambitious by all accounts. The World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, which ended on September 4, was attended by 195 countries. 104 of them were represented by their heads of state. It was 10 years in the preparation. Little wonder it culminated with the adoption of a lofty plan to improve the lives of people without compromising the environment.
