EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS--It may not seem like much at first glance, but the latest electric shavers from Philips Domestic Appliances and Personal Care represent a milestone in display technology. Each shaver, currently sold only in Europe under the brand name Philishave, includes a polymer organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display that tells users how many shaves they have left on the current battery charge and when they should clean and replace the shaving head. Given the number of shavers Philips expects to produce in the next 12 months (100,000), this application is one of the first high-volume productions of polymer OLED displays.
