By Kim Hyung-jin Staff reporter The Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) decided yesterday to disband and form a new party to raise its chances in the Dec. 19 presidential election.

In a meeting of its Supreme Council members, the MDP decided to hold an emergency meeting of the Central Party Affairs Committee, a top decision-making panel, today to authorize the plan to form a new party.

The decision came a day after the party suffered a humiliating defeat in the 13 parliamentary by-elections at the hands of its rival, the Grand National Party (GNP).
