One-time millionaire heiress Diane Lidchi, whose father discovered the mineral riches of Rosh Pinah, died in Windhoek last Thursday.

Lidchi was 71. Heart failure brought on by respiratory problems claimed her life, her daughter, Minky Lidchi, said from Johannesburg yesterday.

Lidchi, who in 1964 inherited a fortune from her father, Mose Kahan, has lived in Namibia since 1996. Her mother, Clara Kahan, stayed with her.

Mrs Kahan turned 92 the day after her daughter's death. She has since returned to Johannesburg with her granddaughter, Minky Lidchi said.

Lidchi was a fighter to the end, her daughter told The Namibian, paying tribute to her mother as "incredibly courageous, the most well-read person, not scared of anybody".
