President Charles G. Taylor yesterday received a peace medal of an 18 karat gold from the hands of Nabile P. Hage, president of the Liberia Karate Federation (LKF), for his several initiatives made towards peace in the West African sub-region, amidst the ongoing dissidents attack in several parts of the country.
During a program held at the Executive Mansion yesterday, Mr. Hage, representing the Union of Karate Federation (UFAK) and president of the LKF, regretted that since President Taylor was inaugurated in 1997, his organization has accomplished much achievements that had hardly claimed the attention they deserve.
Among those, he named the sound defeat of the Guinean national karate team on their home territory in 1998 by the LKF, bringing back home a giant-sized trophy which he never saw, but was also later presented during the program by Youth and Sports Minister Max Dennis.
Mr. Hage pointed out that the UFAK Peace Medal is the highest honor that the sporting body of karate, under the auspices of the Supreme Council of Sports in Africa can award a honor which, according to him, is given to sovereign heads of state and heads of government.
