Seven people, including an Angolan pastor, are being detained at Windhoek's Hosea Kutako International Airport in connection with a passport scam.

They were arrested by Immigration officials two weeks ago.

He is among a number of church pastors accused of allegedly issuing false birth certificates to enable foreigners to obtain Namibian passports.

Clergymen from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Angola and Zambia are allegedly involved in the racket. It is also suspected that some Namibian officials could be implicated.

The pastors are accused of copying the birth certificates of Namibian members of their congregations without their knowledge, erasing their names and replacing them with the names of foreign nationals.
