A former Swapo detainee has urged the United Nations to revoke the appointment of its Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs, Tuliameni Kalomoh.
Keshii Nathanael said he had written to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and informed him that former Namibian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Kalomoh was not suited for a UN job.
During a recent panel discussion in Windhoek, Nathanael alleged that Kalomoh had been linked to the detention and torture of Swapo members in exile.
The panel discussion on decolonisation, violence, memories and reconciliation was hosted by the Nordiska Afrikainstitutet.
Nathanael, brother of the late Swapo stalwart Nathaniel Maxuilili, was the President of the Swapo Youth League in the early 1970s and went into exile in 1974. He was arrested and detained shortly after his arrival in Zambia for allegedly plotting to overthrow the Swapo leadership.
