Both the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, and Major (rtd) S. K. Amponsah, MP for Wassa Mporhor East in the Western Region, last week fought over who should be blamed for the woes Ghana, as a country, has found itself at the moment, despite its abundant natural resources.
Whilst Hon. Joseph Aidoo put the blame squarely on the doorsteps of politicians and top civil servants, Major Amponsah insisted on his part that it was rather the military who have intervened and cut short some of our successive governments, thereby preventing the latter from implementing the long-term visions they were having for the country.
"Until we together change our attitude and mentality and the way we feel for our country, all the beautiful vision we are yearning for will come to nothing," stated the Regional Minister.
The occasion was the regional consultation seminar on the national vision for Ghana, which was organised in Takoradi last Monday by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), in conjunction with the Regional Coordinating Council on the theme, 'From Poverty Reduction to Wealth Creation' - Building a Consensus on National Vision and Programme of Action.'
Participants were drawn from the various NGOs, political parties, religious sects, traditional rulers, organised labour, women's groups, opinion leaders among others.
