"We are running out of saintly priests."
Celebrating his first year as a bishop yesterday, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Socrates Villegas disclosed a plan to heal fallen priests--and it is not to send them a psychiatrist.
Rather, Villegas thinks the best way is to let them "live in a convent with a holy priest."
But how many holy priests are there? By his own admission, "we are running out of saints in the convents and rectories."
Sending a priest with sexual problems or proclivities to a psychologist or psychiatrist should not be taken as a primary solution, Villegas said. Instead, priests can be reformed by closely observing how pious priests live their lives and how they resist temptation.
