(From Manila Standard)
After chalking up gains in the fight against kidnap gangs, President Arroyo yesterday ordered the Philippine National Police to go after 11 international and 215 local drug syndicates operating in the Philippines.
The syndicates were listed in the order of battle of the newly formed Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on the final day of a two-day workshop attended by Ms. Arroyo at PNP headquarters in Camp Crame.
She said the groups will be "targeted and dismantled" in the same way that kidnappers are being hunted down.
"I said, `Go after the criminals, not the crime,'" she said. "So with this workshop of the PDEA, I expect that they immediately will hit the ground running because they know what their role is."
Of the 215 local drug syndicates, 116 are in Luzon, 48 in the Visayas and 51 in Mindanao.
