In 1994, the death penalty was returned to the country's judicial system as the frequency of crimes continued to escalate. Despite all the protests regarding its morality and effectivity, capital punishment was implemented through lethal injection.

A moratorium was declared in November 2000 but this was subsequently lifted in May 2001. Now, debates on the issue have been awakened as some government officials move to repeal the death penalty law. Wherever their discussions may lead, here is something that they should really reflect on.
