Sixty-four former soldiers were released on their own recognisance by the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday while three of their colleagues were released on R3000 bail each. The 67 were part of a larger group of 93 that applied for bail after their arrest at the Johannesburg Park Station on August 17 when they allegedly boarded a train to Cape Town without paying. They wanted to protest outside Parliament because they had not received a reply on a letter sent to President Thabo Mbeki in which they requested their re-instatement into the SA National Defence Force.
