TAIPEI, Sept 2 Asia Pulse - Annual profits from all state-run enterprises are expected to be NT$155.1 billion (US$4.56 billion) for the next fiscal year, about NT$13.4 billion (US$394 million) lower than the levels of 2002, the government said.
According to the latest Central Government Overall Budget Plan for 2003, the state-run firms' profits will be approximately NT$13.4 billion, or 8.7 per cent lower than the year-earlier levels. This is mainly due to the country's economic downturn.
Of the more successful state-run firms, Chunghwa Telecom (TAIEX:2412) is expected to post an annual profit just under NT$10.86 billion, due mainly to the opening of Taiwan's mobile telephone market, Executive Yuan officials in charge of budget plans said.
Taipower profits are expected to be NT$2.33 billion lower, mainly as a result of rising costs for imported crude oil and other fuel resources, along with higher costs for the procurement of electricity ...
