TAIPEI, Sept 2 Asia Pulse - Since the Bush administration took office in January 2001, relations between Taiwan and the United States have become closer, according to a recent administrative report sent to the Legislature by the Executive Yuan.
The report on Taiwan's relations with the United States was made under the category of diplomacy. The report said that based on the common ideals of democracy, freedom and human rights, Taiwan and the United States did not see their relations disrupted after Washington switched diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing in 1979.
Instead, Taiwan and the United States have enjoyed a steady growth between them in trade, and matters of culture and education, science and technology, agriculture and fishing, and security, the report says.
The report states that the exchanges between the executive and the legislative branches of the two countries have also increased.
