AUCKLAND, Sept 2 Asia Pulse - Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jim Bolger has made a positive response to the proposal that New Zealand and Taiwan sign a free trade agreement to boost bilateral economic cooperation, ROC Minister of Economic Affairs Lin Yi-fu said Friday.
Lin, who arrived in Auckland Wednesday to attend the 15th joint meeting of the Taiwan-New Zealand and New Zealand-Taiwan Economic Councils, said he has urged New Zealand to sign a free trade agreement with Taiwan in his speech delivered at the opening session of the meeting.
"Bolger echoed my appeal in a speech delivered on the same occasion," Lin said. "Bolger said the New Zealand government is planning to negotiate free trade agreements with its major trading partners, including Taiwan," he added.
In addition to Bolger, Lin said, Jim Stutton, New Zealand's trade minister, and William Birch, New Zealand's former finance minister, also attended the annual conference aimed at promoting trade, investment and economic cooperation between Taiwan and New Zealand.
